How do I set up SEO friendly URLs

In the Do it yourself section of the installation, I have prepared a small guide to change the page URLs to be simpler and as many say, SEO friendly.

In practice, it means that a page with this URL http://www.ameeck.net/page.php?p=contributions
will be accessible as http://www.ameeck.net/contributions (the URLs don't work, just for a picture).

To enable this behavior, you will need to edit your .htaccess file, which is located in the root (that is the most top-level one) directory of your board. At its end, append this code:
Code: Select all
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9-+]+)$ ./page.php?p=$1 [L]

Warning: this might not work if you have some SEO modification already installed, in that case, add only the last line.
