I have tried many times to upgrade from 3.0.14 to 3.1.x. I get the Unknown column 'field_show_on_pm' in 'field list' error. I've read all the posts and haven't found a solution.
So, I figure I'll install the STK. All I get is :

I'd like to get it working to see if the database tool can help me upgrade to 3.1.x.

Are you trying to run this on a database that has already been (partially) converted? The fact that the user_dst column is missing from your users table means that at least some 3.1 migrations have already been run on the database. The STK would not be recommended for use on a database in this state.
