Whenever a user is browsing (while logged-out), and he/she tries to reply to a post they are redirected to the log-in form, after submitting the details the are redirected to the index.php in stead of going back to the post or to the reply page

Sorry but that has nothing to do with the style. It must be an issue with your install or a mod you installed. I just tested that on my own forum and it it works fine for me.
