we_universal v2.5.8

by v12mike » Wed May 29, 2019 7:48 am

[edit]
Note that we_universal v2.5.8 is no longer recommended for installation, v2.5.9 should be used instead.

For boards which already have v2.5.8 installed, there is no need to upgrade, as the differences are very minor, and would not have any effect on most phpBB installations.

Change log for v2.5.8
  • in responsive view, don't show last post details if no replies
  • in responsive mode, show number of replies, even if 0
  • minor changes to options in custom.css
  • added option in custom.css to have header menu buttons overlay on header image (note that this is not the default behaviour)
  • improved calculation of vertical location of site name in header
  • slight adjustments of header button background colour to make hover more obvious
  • improve viewforum template for extension compatibility (particularly for the Recent Topics extension)
  • update topic icons to prosilver versions (higher resolution and clearer)
  • fix formatting of "jump to post >" in search results
  • update template events for phpBB v3.2.7
  • added {S_FORM_TOKEN_LOGIN} for compatibility with phpBB v3.2.6+ (although it seemed to mostly work without it!)
  • incorporated some more updates from prosilver
  • added ACP link in footer and tidied up footer font sizes
Still to do
  • get reports from other users

I have now labelled a version of v2.5.8 for testing:
https://github.com/v12mike/we_universal ... /v2.5.8-b1
You can see this version on my forum at https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum

I would appreciate feedback on this version before I submit it for phpBB approval (which I intend to do about one week from now).

I have labelled a second test version https://github.com/v12mike/we_universal ... /v2.5.8-b2 which has the above fix and some new template events around the header image to allow better integration of extensions that choose to support this style.
[edit] It has been pointed out that I forgot to update the version number in style.cfg before labelling. I will (if there is no other feedback) be labelling as a -rc later this week, so will fix that then.

I have now labelled a v2.5.8 release candidate version https://github.com/v12mike/we_universal ... v2.5.8-rc1 and have submitted it to phpBB for approval.

I intend to update the screen-shots on this site, and would like to include some shots of other real sites using this style. If you are happy for your site to be used for this, please contact me.

For those waiting for a release of v2.5.8, there will be a short delay, as the review has found a few issues that need to be addressed.
I will try to get it updated and resubmitted shortly.

I have now resubmitted https://github.com/v12mike/we_universal ... v2.5.8-rc2 for approval. Some more improvements from prosilver have been incorporated which may improve future compatibility with extensions. The visible changes are very minor.

Did you manage to fix the Recent Topics column-squishing issue? Is this something we can do ourselves through a line code change?

It is fixed in v2.5.8, but it is not a trivial change. I would suggest that you wait for the released version, or install the latest release candidate version.

Hi v12mike,
I'm looking for away to make our phpBB v3.2.7 forum be responsive for smartphones.
Did you submit your v2.5.8 for testing? If yes, was it approved?
Does your we_universal work with phpBB v3.2.7?
