MOD Development Forum Rules

The MODs in Development Forums are provided for MOD Authors to develop their MODs, from feature requests through the debugging and testing phases.

  1. MOD Support for In-Development MODs

    1. MOD Support is offered by the MOD author(s) only. phpBB.com and the phpBB Teams take no responsibility for supporting MODs listed anywhere on phpBB.com or other sites.
    2. If the MOD was downloaded from this site and was not obtained from the MODs Database, there will be a support topic dedicated to the MOD in either the [3.0.x] MODs in Development Forum. Please ask all questions relating to the MOD in this topic.
    3. Any security vulnerabilities discovered in MODs listed on phpBB.com must be reported to the MOD Author as well as MOD Security Tracker. The MOD Team will then take the appropriate steps to remove the MOD and notify the author. phpBB.com does not take responsibility for vulnerabilities contained within MODs and is not responsible for any MODs listed outside of phpBB.com.
  2. Licensing your MOD

    1. The phpBB Software is released under the GNU GPL v2 and MOD Authors are encouraged to release their MODs under this license as this is the most compatible license for usage on MODs for phpBB.
    2. MODs that are given a license that restricts redistribution are not allowed to be posted on phpBB.com.
    3. If a MOD relies on code from the phpBB software, it is required to also be licensed under the GPL v2 as per the GPL.
    4. MODs cannot contain code from libraries which contains a propietary license as this license does not grant phpBB or the MOD Author rights to redistribute the code.
  3. MOD Prefixes

    1. All MODs listed in the Development forum must have a Topic Prefix. Allowed topic prefixes are: [DEV], [ALPHA], [BETA], [RC], [MODDB], and [ABD].
    2. [DEV] - MOD is listed as in Development stage.
    3. [ALPHA] - MOD is listed as Alpha stage. A download may or may not be provided.
    4. [BETA] - MOD is listed as Beta stage. A download is required for MODs listed in BETA.
    5. [RC] - MOD is listed as RC (Release Candidate) stage. Feature frozen version. -- Generally the stage just before submission to the Modificaions Database, and the stage that is usually listed while the MOD is in the MOD queue.
    6. [MODDB] - A MOD that has been validated and approved to the Modifications Database development topic is closed. A MOD Team member or the MOD Author may close (lock) the topic. The MOD Author should open a new topic for the next version of development for submission to the Modifications Database.
    7. [ABD] - A MOD that is no longer in development and the MOD Author has abandoned is listed with this prefix. The MOD Author may close (lock) the topic themselves. If the MOD Author wishes to continue development of an abandoned MOD, they should PM a MOD Team member to re-open the topic.

  6. MOD Development Requirements

    1. The MODs in Development forum is not meant as a release forum. The purpose of this forum is to be a step in the development process for MOD Authors to receive feedback on their MODs so that a more complete MOD is submitted to the MOD Database. MODs posted must be posted with the intent of the MOD Author to submit the MOD to the MOD Database.
    2. All MODs posted in the MODs in Development are subject the same requirements for the MOD Database with regards to packaging and license. e.g.: All MODs must be packaged with MODX. Alternate formats such as the Text Template are optional and may be included in addition to MODX.
    3. If a MODs is listed as in Development and the Author does not intend for the MOD to be submitted to the MOD Database, or the MOD cannot meet the requirements for the MOD Database (including license or packaging), the MOD topic may be locked.
  7. Abandoned MODs Forum

    1. MODs that have been marked as abandoned mean that they are no longer being supported by the original author of the mod. To ensure that the MODs in development forum is kept in a clean way and the MOD is being actively supported by the mod author, MODs that are marked abandoned will be moved by a MOD Team member to the Abandoned MODs forum.
    2. The purpose of the Abandoned MODs forum is to allow users of the phpBB software the ability to be able to pickup where the original MOD author left off. In other words, to take ownership of the MOD as is allowed per the GNU GPL.
    3. There is no support within the abandoned MODs forum and posting of topics and/or replies is not permitted.
    4. If there is a MOD within this forum that you would like to take over, please feel free to start a new topic in the MODs in development forum. Also please remember that all copyrights MUST remain intact from the abandoned MOD when you take over the MOD per the GNU GPL. You may also contact a member of the MOD Team so that a link to your new topic is added to the abandoned MOD's topic.
