How to purge your phpBB cache

Purging the phpBB cache is a common task. The following KB article will teach you how to do this. But first of all:

What does purging your cache do?

phpBB stores files used by phpBB in the cache so that the files do not have to be processed so often. This reduces the stress on the server.

Sometimes the administrator may want to change these files. This is when the Purge Cache utility comes in handy.

How to purge your cache the easy way [recommended]
  1. Login as the Administrator (you must be a Founder to purge the cache))
  2. Go to the board homepage
  3. Click the Administration Control Panel link at the bottom of the page
  4. Login again...
  5. Under the General tab, there will be a button on the right side of the page that says Purge Cache
  6. You're done!
How to purge your cache manually
  1. Access your FTP server (or other method to access files)
  2. Navigate to the /whereyouinstalledphpbb/cache directory
  3. Delete all files except for the index.htm and .htaccess files (the .htaccess file may not be visible)
  4. You're done!
